The Sushi Confidential Story

Randy Musterer began his career working as a Cancer Research Scientist helping develop therapies for a variety of different types of cancer.  He enjoyed his career in science because he gained fulfillment in knowing that he was helping others along the way.  But Cancer Research is an introverted, task-oriented job without a lot of instant gratification.  To fulfill this desire to be social and creative, Randy worked part time as a sushi chef in Campbell a couple nights a week to be able to be creative with his sushi rolls, interact with his guests, and gain gratification when his guests had a great experience.

Over the years, Randy’s passion for sushi grew and he eventually opened up Sushi Confidential – Campbell in the Spring of 2012.  Even though Randy continued his career as a scientist for the next couple of years, he also had the desire to follow his passion with sushi.  Sushi Confidential became an instant hit with his sushi loving followers, and the Campbell community.  Many marketing companies started to reach out to Randy and wanted him to advertise with them.  However, he was not interested in throwing his money into advertising to try to reach more customers.  Instead he wanted to leverage the strong brand that Sushi Confidential had naturally developed to donate gift cards and sushi party experiences to local schools and other non-profit groups.  Randy was obviously interested in Cancer Research, but through his restaurant he was able to donate.

With the expansion of Sushi Confidential in downtown San Jose – San Pedro Square in 2016, Sushi Confidential has the ability to donate even more, by offering its beautiful new patio to non-profit groups for fundraising events.

Randy recently partnered with Randy Hahn, the voice of the San Jose Sharks, and Alla Zeltser (Director of Fundraising & Events) to start their own non-profit organization, Randys’ 24 Hours of Sushi – Celebrity Charity Challenge.  With the new downtown San Jose location and the partnership with Randy Hahn and the San Jose Sharks Foundation, Sushi Confidential has taken its philanthropic efforts to a new, exciting level.  In 2018, the first event took place on the newly constructed patio. This was a star studded event with current and alumni Sharks players, government dignitaries, San Jose Earthquake Alumni, and many local business owners offering their support. The first charity event raised over $250,000 to the donors charity of choice.
